Description
The RCWL-0516 Microwave Radar Sensor module can be used as an alternative to the common PIR motion sensor. It is widely used in burglar alarms and security lights. unlike the PIR sensor, this sensor instead of sniffing the blackbody radiation from a moving person, it uses a “microwave Doppler radar” technique to detect moving objects. It has a detection range of 5~9 meters. When triggered, its TTL-level output (OUT) pin will switch from LOW (0 V) to HIGH (3.3 V) for a finite time (2 to 3 s) before returning to its idle (LOW) state.

Further Info
This is a Doppler radar module capable of detecting movement and can be used both with as well as without a microprocessor or microcontroller based development kit. The module is able to detect any movement in it’s path or nearby surroundings. The sensitivity of the module can be regulated by angling the module in certain ways to obtain the desired sensitivity. This module is inexpensive and can be easily used with other devices. It can find numerous applications in triggered alarm systems and home automation systems.
